Yesterday afternoon, I took a brand new step. I entered a political race. Whew! This should prove to be exciting, and I plan to bring good ideas to the job. The roadmap for success was long ago laid out.
To change some Loretta Lynn lyrics a little, "If you're looking at me, you're looking at Conservative".
I love the US Constitution. Really love it. I think the Founding Fathers did a wonderful job. We need to read it frequently, and try not to be led astray by the failed ideas of governments in other countries. Yes, I do realize I am running for a Saline County position, not a state or federal office. I feel, though, that the same principles apply. Rule of Law is Rule of Law, and Freedom is Freedom. The government should be limited, and should be a servant of the people. Come with me on this journey. There is much to be done.

Tonight I attended the Friends of the NRA Fundraiser at Woody's Sherwood Forest. I met a man who is very involved in helping you and me to keep our Second Amendment rights. His name is John Anderson. The organization he represents is the Arkansas Concealed Carry Association. These people are dedicated to protecting and defending the rights of Arkansas' Concealed Handgun License Holders. If you are a concealed carrier like me, you will want to be familiar with this organization.
The liberal Obama administration would just LOVE to take your guns away from you. Don't let that happen. Obama and Pelosi don't think you deserve the right to defend yourself and your family in your own home.
Team up with people and organizations who are on your side regarding the Second Amendment. You can find the Arkansas Concealed Carry Association at www.arkansascca.org

Be pro-active. Don't sit idly by until someday a government agent knocks on your door, having come to take away your guns.
Remember that when the law-abiding citizens are disarmed, only the criminals will have guns. And they will KNOW it, too.
Oh, yeah, and who else will still have guns? Why, the government, of course. The very people who are showing us more and more every day that your rights mean nothing to them. The Big Power-Grabbers who want to strip our country of its Excellence.
"Power corrupts, and Absolute Power corrupts Absolutely". When has there every been an administration in this nation's history that has grabbed more power than the current one?
Now is the time that we must act to safeguard our liberty. Stand up for your rights. Read the US Constitution. Rudy Giulianni said that most of the damage Obama has done to us so far might be reversible if we win the majority back, but if he passes Obamacare, it might not be reversible because once you add that many people to a government-run health program, it would be really hard to get them off.

Don't forget - there's a $1,000 Reward for the person who provides the Saline County Sheriff's Department with the testimony/evidence that gets the man convicted who broke into Salem Pharmacy in the early hours of May 23, 2009.
We know who he is, He knows who he is, and some of You know who he is. All that is needed is the evidence to convict him.
This man stole narcotics and likely sold them to people you may know. Do you want him to continue?
Call the Saline County Sheriff's Department with your evidence, and Contact the owners of Salem Pharmacy in regards to the reward.
Let's get this guy off the street.

Republican Party of Arkansas State Convention held in Little Rock

The Republican Party of Arkansas held its convention June 27, 2009, at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Little Rock.
The state party, headed up by Doyle Webb of Saline County proved to be healthy and optimistic, with the convention drawing an estimated 180 people. Speakers included Doyle Webb, Ed Garner, Rita Hamilton and others. The mood was upbeat, and at one point the suggestion was made that when Republicans have Cap and Trade brought up to them in conversation, they should respond with "Quack." When pressed to explain, they will say that "In Arkansas, if it quacks like a duck, and walks like a duck...."(It's a duck - just like Cap and Trade is a TAX.)
Chase Duggar gave a brief "tour" and tutorial on the RPA's new website, which has drawn compliments from other states. California had a representative comment that our website "does more stuff" than theirs. Doyle Webb commented to the crowd, jokingly, that "We may not have shoes or indoor toilets, but have a good website".
The new website really is nice. I have used it, and it has a lot of nice features. I have submitted my blog info to have my blog added to the site's blogroll. The RPA's web address is www.arkansasgop.org.
All the usual "Roberts' Rules of Order" procedures were followed in the meeting, and robust debate was seen over a couple of issues - one being a "rules review" issue, which one man wanted to table for 6 months while more study was done, but in the end, it was decided that 6 months delay would be unwise, so they had the vote and took care of the minor issue.
A group from the Republican Women of Marion County, in the "Operation Speak-Out" effort presented a proposed resolution to the convention seeking to request that our elected Republican Legislators introduce, at the earliest, a Constitutional Amendment stating, "The Arkansas State Constitution cannot be amended except by a vote of the people of Arkansas". This proposal was in response to an article in the Arkansas Democrat Gazette of 4-26-09 wherein certain Democrats stated their intent to try to change the AR Constitution without the vote of the people. Amendment 7 (passed by voters) gave the legislature the power to pass any measure by a 2/3 vote, including a constitutional amendment, but Operation Speak-Out felt that the Supreme Court in 1951 considered it "inconceivable" that the language of Amendment 7 meant that the legislature could pass or change a Const. Amendment. After some debate, the proposal failed. The vote was 53 to 53, with Doyle Webb opting not to vote, and the measure failed for lack of a majority.
Present at the convention were numerous candidates running for upcoming elections, and we got to hear briefly from Fred Ramey (candidate for US Senate - Blanche Lincoln's seat), David Meeks (candidate for US Congress - Vic Snyder's seat), Nate Bell, (candidate for State Rep, Dist. 22), Jonathan Dismain, (Rep running for Senate), Dan Greenberg, (current State Rep running for Senate), Prissy Hickerson (Cand. House Dist. 1) Anna Grizzle (running for David Dunn's seat) and Matthew Shephard, (Candidate, Dist. 6). All seemed energetic, qualified, and ready to run.
Also introduced was John Eves, Chairman of the Arkansas Republican National Hispanic Assembly. I was not aware that this group existed, and was interested to hear about it. Their website is www.ArkansasRNHA.com.
One point that was emphasized to the crowd was that there are differences between the parties, among which is that we are the Conservative party, and the Democrat Party is the Liberal party. With this crowd, that is important. ( I know it is to me.)
After adjournment of the official meeting, and lunch break, several training classes were held, on new media skills, coalitions, and other useful campaign information. Jason Tolbert, of the blog "The Tolbert Report" was one of the speakers at the "New Media" class. Mr. Tolbert is a respected blogger and has been a guest on The Dave Elswick Show on FM 102.9. This coming Monday, David Meeks will be Dave's guest. Tune in to learn more about this exciting candidate.

Keep sounding the alarm about artificial sweeteners

In doing research for this article, I was somewhat alarmed to see in an article from Redbook, on the WebMD website, some references to some dangerous artificial sweeteners, along with info on some safe alternatives. What's up with that? I've read enough strong warnings from enough sources to know that artificial sweetening is a bad idea.
We have natural sweeteners that are safe and low in calories. Why would anyone want to use a chemical in their food or beverage?
According to The Douglass Report, http://www.douglassreport.com/reports/aspartame, Aspartame is one of the most dangerous substances ever added to food. Not only has aspartame been proven to make you fatter, it's been proven to cause some pretty serious diseases, not the least of which are Cancer and neurological diseases. (And yes, I said it will make you Fatter.)
The proof is already on file. Aspartame has caused more complaints to the FDA than any other additive - ever. It is responsible for a full 75% of the complaints the agency gets. From 10,000 consumer complaints, the FDA compiled a list of 92 symptoms, including DEATH. (That's a pretty serious symptom.)
Many people these days have fallen prey to the big ad campaign for Splenda. They said it's "Made from sugar so it tastes like sugar". What they don't tell you is about the 5-step process they put it through that changes the chemical composition and makes it more like a fructo-galactose molecule. (Not something that occurs in Nature). Your body cannot metabolize this. A good website to look at for information on Splenda is http://www.drmercola.net Symptoms reported to Dr. Mercola by his patients, regarding Splenda include:
seizures, headaches, body and chest pains, flushing, acne, rashes, diarrhea, nausea, altered emotional state, anxiety, depression, mental and emotional breakdown, and panic attacks. And the makers of Splenda are telling you to give this stuff to your kids!
I could go on and on here, for as you know, we have been so inundated with the onslaught of these chemical sweeteners and the advertisement of them, that many people think of them as normal to consume. Please, back away from the laboratory!
We are, most of us, quite fond of the taste of sweetness. We are brought up on sweet goodies, and it is the favorite flavor of most kids. But once we grow up, we have to behave more maturely, and see that we and our children make better choices.
We can still enjoy sweetness in our foods. Sugar is fine in moderation. (If you are diabetic, follow your doctor's directions on this subject) There are also some natural sweeteners available that are delicious and good for you. Stevia is one such sweetener. Made simply from a plant that can even be grown right here in Arkansas, Stevia is delicious and good for you. You can buy it at the grocery store under several brand names, one being Truvia. The syrup from the Blue Agave plant is another. Not quite as convenient, maybe, but a good natural sweetener.
Please take the time to think about the kind of sweeteners you are putting into your body. Diet sodas are so bad for you in so many ways. Chemical sweeteners, added to phosphoric acid, then served in an aluminum can. Good grief, there's 3 kinds of poison right there. It's the middle of the night. Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson are camped at the edge of a forest, where they have stopped for a night's rest, as they track a dangerous suspect. Holmes speaks. "Watson, are you awake?" "Yes, Holmes", answers the doctor. "Tell me what you see, Watson", he says. Watson replies, "A sky full of stars". "And what does that mean to you, Watson?", he goes on. Watson ponders for a minute, then says, "It means that we are but tiny specks in an immense universe, yet we must persevere, doing our part to bring justice to our little world." "Interesting", Holmes replies. "And what else, Watson?"
Watson thinks a bit, then proceeds, "It means that nature in its great beauty is constantly on display, even during times of great turmoil and anxiety for mankind, and that we can take comfort in that." "I see", answers Holmes. "Anything else, Watson?"
By now Watson doesn't know how he can further expound on this subject, so he asks, "What does it mean to you, Holmes?"
Well irritated by now, Holmes snaps, "It means someone has stolen our tent, you idiot!!!"

George Orwell's "1984" deserves a place on your "Must Read" list

George Orwell's book, "1984" was first published in 1949. At that time, 1984 sounded like a very distant time, and no one knew what might befall mankind as the history of governance continued to play out. I read the book in approximately 1968 and was greatly impacted by it, so much moreso than the usual books a 9th-grader reads. I have just finished reading it again, in May of 2009. The impact has not dwindled. As a matter of fact, it is more timely now than it was then, and just as full of warnings. Agreed, it is an extreme scenario, but , "Look around you", and observe the disturbing similarities of the nation of "Oceania", and our own country, with the whirlwind of freedom-stealing power-plays being foisted on Americans by the current Liberal Administration, with the mainstream media and out-of-touch celebrities in tow.
In 1984, the functional world is divided into 3 nations - Oceania, Eurasia, and Eastasia. These are conglomerations made up of past nations. At all times, Oceania is at war with one of them, and is an ally of the other. The war is continuous. Its purpose is political.
Today's "Politically Correct" terms, which even politicians of the highest rankings use, are not so different in some ways to "Newspeak", the official language of Oceania. Our culture is expected to accept such terms as "Manmade Disasters" for terrorist attacks, "Rainforest" for jungle, "Undocumented Worker" for illegal alien, and we are told that certain Welfare checks paid to persons not paying any taxes to begin with, are "Tax Rebates" or "Refunds". We are not stupid, but we are expected to swallow whatever tripe the government hands us. In Oceania in 1984, the official language, "Newspeak" has as its entire aim, to "narrow the range of thought". Not to believe every word the Government says, is a felony punishable by death. The Thought Police watch day and night and even children spy on their own parents to make sure no crimes against the government go undetected. Do you think we have no Thought Police today in the United States? Then tell me how we can have "Hate Crimes"? Until recently, if you assaulted a human being, you were prosecuted for what you did. Now, with the new "Hate Crimes" laws, you can be prosecuted more severely, based on what you were thinking. If you are perceived to have attacked someone because of a particular trait the person has, such as race, gender, or sexual orientation, then your punishment can be more severe than if you just attacked the person because you were angry, seeking revenge, trying to rob the person, or whatever. The attack is no more or less severe, but the punishment is. Based on your thoughts. Thought Police.
In Oceania, the citizens are divided into three economic levels, the High, the Middle, and the Low. This corresponds directly with their connection to the governing body. Inner Party members - High. Outer Party members - Middle. Proletariat (the great unwashed masses) - Low. What do we hear today in the way of class membership? The Wealthy, The Middle Class, and The Poor.
What is the greatest enemy of Freedom in Oceania? The huge, pervasive government. What is the greatest enemy and looming threat to Freedom in America? The constantly growing, pervasive government.
What is the end result of allowing government to run wild, unchecked, taking control of every aspect of our lives? Read "1984".

Two hunters from New Jersey are out in the woods when one of them suddenly falls to the ground. He doesn't seem to be breathing. The other man whips out his cell phone and dials "9-1-1". He gasps out to the operator: "My friend is dead! What can I do?"
The operator in a calm, soothing voice says, "Just take it easy. First let's make sure he's dead."
There is a silence, then a shot is heard. The guy's voice comes back on the line. He says: "OK, now what?"

I recently saw an article in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, entitled "Is Britain taxing London into irrelevance?" Their top tax rate is to be 50% now. Astonishing, right?
Well, just look at us. If you add up all the types of taxes we pay (direct and indirect taxes, hidden taxes such as fees, etc.) on a continuing basis, it was already over 50% sometime ago, and as every new day passes, we are hearing of more and more ways that the government wants to take our money and spend it as they please.
Every time the government adds to your tax burden, they subtract from your liberty.
I am currently doing research for this article, and will present it on my blog very shortly.
